“Alone Yet Not Not Alone” Nominated for Academy Award

The internet lit up today over the various surprises and snubs of this year’s Academy Awards nominations.

One of the biggest surprises was the nomination of the title song from Enthuse Entertainment’s Alone, Yet Not Alone – one of this year’s feature film releases from the Independent Christian industry.

The song features music by previous Academy Award-nominee Bruce Broughton (Silverado) and lyrics by Dennis Spiegel. Here it is performed by Joni Eareckson Tada:

That this song, which openly speaks of God’s providence and sustaining grace, has attracted this kind of attention has confused many, who expected to see this category filled by well-known recording artists such as Taylor Swift or Lana Del Rey. For those that were aware of the film, this announcement was exciting, while at the same time prompting some indignation from others who felt that songs with greater Oscar potential were slighted. Regardless, for a Christian film to get a nod from the Oscars is pretty cool. May the Lord use this song, this film, and this industry to further His purposes, kingdom, and glory.
